Hi, I'm a dork. :)
Aug. 30th, 2005 09:49 pmAICN has a set report from the Poseidon Adventure remake, which now has another notch in the win column in the "Which is a better Poseidon Adventure remake?" game. Not only does this movie have Kurt Russell, but it also has a character named Jennifer. It's a remake of my favorite movie, except this time they put me in it and made me look like Emmy Rossum! *flails* Shut up and let me dream, damn it. ;P
Then again, the other Poseidon Adventure remake from Hallmark has in its win column that it's closer to the book, it hasJayne Cobb on a flipped-over boat saving people AND shooting terrorists Adam Baldwin and Steve Guttenberg, and it's airing November 20th instead of ending up in theaters next year.
Did I mention I'm letting myself buy this this weekend?
I need help. And maybe to watch it again when I go home. Sheesh.
EDIT: And in today's "Yeah, no shit, genius" news, a survey says poor movies are to blame for the crappy box office. Did you notice how they keep analyzing it like they can't quite believe moviegoers think this year has been one great cinematic lemonfest?

So. Um. Yeah. No more surveys. :>

Date: 2005-09-01 10:43 pm (UTC)I hasten to add at this point that the film also seems from the trailer to be a fine piece of family entertainment, so will just go see it for purely artistic reasons.
Your Honor.

Date: 2005-08-31 02:58 am (UTC)Yes, but who will play Panicky Idiot #5?
Did you notice how they keep analyzing it like they can't quite believe moviegoers think this year has been one great cinematic lemonfest?
Also, I think the fact that they're just remaking a bunch of stuff plays into it a lot. Maybe this new Poseidon Adventure will be great, but it's hard for me to get excited about waiting to see it in theatres when I can just buy the original right now and see how the people got off the ship. I mean, what was the point of "Dukes of Hazzard"? Between CMT and MTV I can see the show it was based on AND most of the stars of the movie on basic cable. It's to the point where even if it's _good_ there's not much motivation to go to the theater for it.

Speaking of songs, have you heard, or heard of, the Off-Broadway Musical version? Bloody hilarious...

Date: 2005-09-01 01:22 am (UTC)The Poseidon Adventure is my favorite movie -- always has been since I first saw it and always will be. I don't think either of the remakes will have the song, but I'm trying to look on the bright side. In a perfect world, they wouldn't remake it because the damn thing is fine just the way it is -- hell, that movie (and everything else from Irwin Allen in the '70s) is the entire reason I love the disaster genre most of all. However, if they are going to remake it, I'd rather they went for as close to the book as they can manage (which they're at least attempting with the TV version) instead of just blowing shit up (which I get the impression is going to happen in the movie remake).
The TV version has kind of won me over because I get the impression that:
a.) They realize it's cheese.
b.) They're casting accordingly.
c.) It's by Hallmark, so the overblown melodrama will be almost as bad as in the original.
I'm crossing my fingers that at the most, it won't entirely suck. My expectations are really low for both, though, but the TV version's at least catching my interest.

Date: 2005-09-01 10:56 pm (UTC)My parents took me to see it when I was about five, and I became hysterically worried about what would happen in to little Eric Shea. So, in the middle of the cinema, my dad quietly explained to me the process of making a movie (in simple terms, of course), basically that they were all pretending and that the little boy would be fine and that's what acting was. I decided right then and there that I wanted to be an actor, which in fact was my career for a long while.
I must mention that as soon as my dad finished telling me all this, my mom added "Of course in the book, the little boy dies."
I too am a die-hard Irwin Allen fan,in fact a disater movie fan full-stop. I even learned to play "The Morning After" and "We May Never Love Like This Again" on the piano. What's your favourite "Airport" movie? Mine is "Airport 77". I do a killer Lee Grant impression.
I agree with you re the two versions. Going for the book, and NOT casting Emmy Rossum is definitely the way to go.
They did record the musical, by the way. Don't know how widely it was distributed, but if you look real hard on Amazon you might get lucky. It's worth it just for songs like:
"Just Panties"
"Air Pockets"
and "Under Water I'm A Very Skinny Lady"

Date: 2005-09-02 03:05 am (UTC)*happy sigh* I loved that part in the book. Especially considering I always wanted Gene Hackman to punt Eric Shea into the nearest shaft of boiling water.
One of my best friends in high school used to refer to Gene Hackman's character as Superpriest, and I remember that first before I ever remember Reverend Scott. It's so apt. :)
What's your favourite "Airport" movie?
Oh, the first one, but then again, I always tend to like the first one in a movie series best. Also, I own the Airport Terminal Pack with all four movies on DVD. I saw it in the store and squealed out loud. The sales guys thought I was nuts. *giggles*
Going for the book, and NOT casting Emmy Rossum is definitely the way to go.
Oh, between this and The Day After Tomorrow, I really hope Emmy Rossum doesn't become some sort of latter-day female "damsel in distress" version of George Kennedy. I really don't think I could take her showing up in every new disaster movie being saved by everyone else.

Date: 2005-09-02 11:01 pm (UTC)As for the first Airport movie, I just can't bear to watch a Jean Seberg movie, I look at her and just keep thinking about her lying in the boot of that car for days and days. BUT THEY'RE ALL OUT ON A DVD PACK???? So need to own that, even if it does have Airport '79 Concorde, which I thought kinda sucked.
Now George Kennedy, there's a thing.. I've always had this motto: "If you see George Kennedy at the airport, DON'T GET ON THE PLANE." Did you know that, in real life, when the QE2 ran aground off Nantucket about ten years ago, George Kennedy was on board? Which brings me to my second motto: "Don't get into a vehicle, any vehicle, with a Kennedy, any Kennedy."
Do you suppose there's ANY chance that Emmy's gonna die in POSEIDON?
*sigh* Nah, me neither. I was really hoping that septicenia would get to her in Day After Tomorrow, before Dennis Quaid did. Really liked it otherwise, though, especially Jake Gyllenhaal in wet boxers..
