Nov. 26th, 2005 10:43 pmFinally got to see "Asylum" tonight.
-- Dean used Nigel Tufnel as an alias. Like I needed another reason to want to fuck him. ;)
-- The whole thing about Sam being a psychic is cool, but there is a veryhorny selfish balanced part of my brain that thinks it's only fair Dean get some kooky powers. Not that he needs them -- he's awesome enough just the way he is.
-- The thing with Dean asking the blonde about the horror movies made me die giggling.
-- Okay, for the record, watching this episode after ten is not a good idea. Especially since for me, big empty abandoned buildings like that are scary enough even without the creepy ghosts.
-- "I had a crappy guidance counselor." *snickers*
-- See, things like the ghost calling Sam on the phone to get him down into the basement combined with his remarks earlier in the episode about John text-messaging them when he can't even work the toaster are why I can't help but think John's been dead from that first episode. Stupid brain. And I do think if he has been dead that it was him texting the boys even if it could have been someone else, just 'cause. No, I don't even try to justify my pet theory anymore.
-- It's been six months since that first episode? Hell, sure doesn't seem like it.
-- Jesus, Dean is just never in a sharing and caring mood, and when he finally explodes from bottling it all in, he is just so going to snap. And I am going to love every minute of it, because when he displays how truly fucked-up he is, it's the most wonderful time of the year. :)
-- Okay, I've already said so, but I do think that last scene with Sam answering the phone will turn out to be a dream. Don't ask me why, I just do. Although, if that does turn out to be true, I'm going to giggle hysterically from a Wincest point of view, because, HEE! In Sam's dreams, Dean is shirtless and possibly naked. Aw, isn't that cute? The Dean in his dreams is just like the Dean in mine. *snerk*
-- You know what else I've noticed? This may be the only show I'm not actively looking for spoilers for. I'm always looking for spoilers for shows I watch, just because I'm horribly impatient and curious and I want to know. But for SN, I'd rather be surprised.

Date: 2005-11-27 04:05 am (UTC)And, yes, Dean should get a cool power, too. Hmmm...something to do with strength and agility.

Date: 2005-11-27 04:13 am (UTC)I kind of like the thought of Dean with telekinesis, although something with strength or agility would be awesome, too. Just something. Those guys have enough angst already with "He had powers in the womb?!" making its way over here. ;)

Date: 2005-11-27 05:16 am (UTC)Oh, Dean with telekinesis would rock!!! I must write that AU fic NOW! :)

Date: 2005-11-27 05:36 am (UTC)And I've been thinking the same thing about Sam being the target of these attacks on Mary and Jess because of his power, too. What I was thinking the other day was that eventually we're going to discover something like either John or Mary's mother died the exact same way as well, and whichever child it was never found out because there was an adoption or they were farmed out to another family member or something. Mary's "I'm sorry" at their old house makes me wonder if maybe she had a secret past she never told John about and that's why Sam (and possibly Dean) are targets.
*snickers* I love this show. It's such cheese, and yet I could obsess about it all day long. :)
*wanders through*
Date: 2005-11-27 05:46 am (UTC)But how would you explain John showing up in the episode "Home" then?
Re: *wanders through*
Date: 2005-11-27 06:03 am (UTC)Admittedly, all of my proof could still work if he's alive, but if you watch it from the beginning as, "He's dead, he's a spirit, and that's why he's had such a hard time contacting the boys," which has become sort of the default belief setting in my head as I watch, it still works. If the writing staff is trying to make it look like it could go one way or another, they're doing a bang-up job on that count.
Re: *wanders through*
Date: 2005-11-27 06:09 am (UTC)Re: *wanders through*
Date: 2005-11-27 06:24 am (UTC)My belief is that the "I'm sorry" was because she just realized and was apologizing because he'd got the demon-attracting-power from her side of the family somehow.
Or really just because they'd never got to know each other and he had no memories of her. ;_;
Re: *wanders through*
Date: 2005-11-27 06:30 am (UTC)*snickers* That's cool. It's not like I'd be bothered or annoyed if he showed up unarguably alive in the next episode, but if he is dead, that would explain a lot for me. :)

Oh, yeah, that's another thought I've had, too. That "I'm sorry" could go so many ways (especially since we don't know if she was saying it to both boys or specifically to Sam), and all of them make me happy in a storyline-speculation way.

Date: 2005-11-27 07:22 am (UTC)I watched the second half of this episode at noon, because I made the mistake of starting it after midnight. The thing in the straightjacket? Is haunting my nightmares, dude.
I don't know about John being dead. I mean, ghosts seem to have different abilities in this than I was generally used to but I don't know that I quite think he's dead (although it certainly makes sense that he'd go to Missouri if he were). My personal theory is that he has a theory about why the Thing killed Mary and Jess and is worried that it's connected to Sam. But that is a pretty unsubstantiated theory and is mostly due to my own suspicions in that regard. I love speculating about this show.
I am rather annoyed that my two main fandoms both have brothers as main characters because I don't do incest fic and that means finding any fic to read is pretty much impossible. (My other fandom being Numb3rs.)
Also Sam totally should have noticed the interference in the cell phone call and been suspicious.

Date: 2005-11-27 07:44 am (UTC)The guy in the straitjacket was fucking creepy, and if I hadn't been warned about it beforehand, I probably would have shut the damn thing off right then and there and waited until the sun was up to watch the rest. And then not slept for the rest of the night, because GYAH.
The John-being-dead theory is totally my crack theory. I don't expect it to be true at all, but at the same time, I like the fact that it could fit. And I think it's totally plausible that he's hiding out because he has a theory that the demon that killed Mary and Jess did it because of a connection to Sam. Also, I second the storyline speculation love, because they just give the audience some great fodder to work with on that count.
And yeah, Sam definitely should have noticed the interference on the cell phone. Poor dopey Sam. *giggles*

Date: 2005-11-27 07:57 am (UTC)I would be creeped out and really interested if the dead!John theory turned out to be true. And you never know, the two theories aren't mutually exclusive. And you know, Dean is totally going to have issues if stuff starts being all about Sam's powers and especially if they might have been a factor in Mary's death.
And Dean's issues need to have screentime because they make me happy.
And yeah, he should have! Wasn't he the one who noticed the stuff on the flight recorder in Phantom Traveler? The phone was the same thing!

Date: 2005-11-27 08:10 am (UTC)And you never know, the two theories aren't mutually exclusive.
This is true. :)
And you know, Dean is totally going to have issues if stuff starts being all about Sam's powers and especially if they might have been a factor in Mary's death.
Isn't that the truth? That's one of the few reasons I don't want Dean to have powers, because as much as I want both brothers to be on equal footing, homegrown Winchester brother angst is like 100% pure grade-A crack, especially where Dean is concerned. And every time I think Dean won't get any powers, and that Sam's abilities might be connected to Jess's and Mary's deaths, and then I picture how Dean will react to that, I get all excited and happy. I love that man so very much, but he will flip right the fuck out, and it will be a thing of beauty.
Amen on Sam noticing the EVP. Jeez, they're both really good at noticing EVP on recordings like that, and Dean even made that crack in the pilot about Sam not being rusty about hearing it. Of course, this makes me wonder what exactly IS the EVP on that phone call. I mean, yes, we know it was a faked phone call from the ghosts, but it had that same sound that all of the EVP recordings on this show do -- that scratchy, patchy sound with the weird echoing thing in the background -- and they don't exactly have a recording of it to play back. (Not that I think anything important would be on it, but this show breeds speculation about the smallest things.)

Date: 2005-11-27 07:31 pm (UTC)I would love to see Dean properly flip out. He needs to, after getting shot! And of course he's going to, because he doesn't talk about things, so it's going to build and build and then go 'splodey, especially if there turns out to be a connection (or if Sam doesn't tell him that their dad called, which is, you know, a possibility, it being Sam and thinking what he thinks about their father and Dean following his orders).
I'm betting the EVP was some variant on what the docotor says. (and I never. want. to visit a doctor's ever. again.) I didn't really expect Sam to be able to figure out what it said, but you'd think he would at least notice it was there and be suspicious because of it, since the ghosts had already delivered their messages and were being quiet, and because Dean wasn't going to the boiler room.

Date: 2005-11-27 07:55 pm (UTC)And if Sam doesn't tell Dean about the phone call, Dean is so going to have a fit, and with good reason. He really does need to just throw down on Sam with his problems, because Sam's behavior would drive me batty if I were him. I mean, I love Sam to pieces almost as much as I love Dean, but he's got that little brother selfishness down to a T. I think he's going to have to tell Sam to stop acting like such a tool eventually, but then again, I think that stop-acting-like-a-tool speech is going to end up going both ways. Both of them are just keeping these big treasure chests full of secrets from one another, and they're going to keep getting each other in trouble with them if they don't knock it off.

Date: 2005-11-27 10:29 pm (UTC)*And when Sam proceeded to pull it about a dozen different times when the first one didn't work? Scariest moment of the episode.

Date: 2005-11-28 12:36 am (UTC)And also -- oh, YES. That look on Dean's face when Sam pulled the trigger ... and then pulled it again ... and then AGAIN. Those poor guys. The more I watch, the more I just want to sweep them up in a great big hug. *whimpers* I think I need to go watch that episode again. Oh, yeah.
