I could swear I've read the male Christian conservative opinion on Brokeback Mountain before, but anglepoiselamp linked to it again and quoted this line from it:

The young ladies who are fans of Gyllenhaal and Ledger do not want to see them making out.

That line kills me dead. Because -- and this is just a theory, mind you -- I'm pretty sure I could have sex with an ugly guy I hated in the same room as Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal having a wild, hot homosexual fling on the other side of the room, and have it be the best sex I could ever have just from keeping my head turned in the right direction to watch every sexy minute of them doing it.

The boyfriend and I saw a trailer for that movie. Neither of us had heard about it beforehand, and the first few minutes looked like it was just supposed to be a western of some sort.

I leaned over and whispered to him, "Hey, is this supposed to be a gay porn?" He replied that I had a dirty mind. You know, until it was revealed a few seconds later that it was a movie about hot gay cowboys who fuck each other.

It doesn't necessarily make me want to see it, since the dialogue looked laughably bad, but it did made me want to rent it once it's out on video so I can fast forward through the parts where they're not making out.

This was linked at wranglers last week, and I emailed it to Amanda at Pandagon.net. It's been around. You'll notice that at the end he closes comments because "everyone was coming here from gay sex blogs" and hey, that's all he needs to decide, OF COURSE it's not average girls and gay men who are commenting -- it's sick pervs who read gay porn blogs, and he's still the one "in the mainstream" so he can pat himself on the back.

Well, it's like this. Remember, as a kid, you found your (most likely) dad's hidden porno stash, and you saw your 1st gay porn? 1st reaction, "ewwwwwww, that's gross!" Well alright, the hetero sex looks gross when you're a kid, but let's ignore that for this discussion.

In slightly related news, I read about one of the actors (I don't remember which one) talking about people's reactions to the early screenings. He said that people kept coming up to him to say how moving they found the love story, and how they kept prefacing their remarks by, "I'm straight, but..." So clearly the ick factor doesn't apply.
