Because if there's one thing the hippies could use, it's an entire phalanx of spazz wranglers.

In addition, if anybody wants the recipe fo maple nut logs, here it is.

MAPLE NUT LOGS

Cookies:

1/2 cup fimly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon maple flavor
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Frosting:

1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon margarine or butter, softened
5 teaspoons milk
1/4 teaspoon maple flavor
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts

In large bowl, beat brown sugar, 1/2 cup margarine, egg and 1 teaspoon maple flavor until well blended. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off. Stir in flour, mix well. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate 1 or 2 hours or until firm.

Heat oven to 375 F. Shape heaping teaspoonfuls of dough into 3-inch logs. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 F for 6 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned and edges are set. Immediately remove from cookie sheets. Cool completely.

In small bowl, combine all frosting ingredients except nuts. Beat until smooth and of dipping consistency. Dip ends of cookies in frosting. Roll frosted ends in nuts; allow frosting to set. Store in loosely covered container. Makes 3 dozen cookies.

Would it be okay to use maple syrup instead?

I don't see why not. I think I changed it to maple syrup when I made them the one time, and those turned out fine. :)

Are Maple Nut Logs your funeral food? In my family, death=ham (as in, we bake one and take it to the funeral home).

Sorry about your great-grandad.

Yup, and if you like the taste of pancakes and walnuts, they're horribly addictive. My mom brought me a batch to DC from Pennsylvania and I squealed like an idiot in the middle of a hotel parking lot. :)

I like pancakes, just not with a lot of syrup. I shall have to make these. Thank you.

And it looks like I could substitute pecans with no trouble!
