Jul. 7th, 2004 08:53 amSo, yeah. Halle Berry being replaced as Storm. *Nelson laugh* I guess that's what you get for being a skanky wench, you ... uh, skanky wench.
And I've already seen Angela Bassett's name come up, which doesn't make me as defensive of her chances for the role as I used to be. And I'm not saying that because she's a bad actress, because she isn't. And I'm not saying that because she'd make a bad Storm, because she wouldn't. My personal problem, if I were in charge of the last movie, is that bumping off Jean and moving in Bobby, Rogue (hopefully), and I'm assuming Colossus in some respect (because he's on IMDB, and don't argue with me because I really, really want him to be there) sort of drops the average age of of the team. Kurt might even it out a bit. I know this sounds stupid, but maybe I'm the only one who think it'd look weird ... a handful of people in their twenties (yes, even Cyclops is young and pretty enough to count, even though James is a year or two past thirty) aaaaaaaand Storm. Talk about the odd man out in that group.
Of course, anything better's than Halle. Hell, my Jerry Garcia plushie could do a better job. And Christina Milian's not a bad choice, I think. The only problem I can foresee is making her look old enough to look like she could have been the other kids' teacher, but she really only has to look a few year older, and you slap the right clothes, makeup and hairstyle onto anyone and it'll make anyone look older.
It does make for a funny mental image, though ... what Jean'll have to say? Just picture it. She comes back from the dead, sees Storm, and basically has an OMGWTFSTFULOLBBQ moment. "Storm! You're younger! You're prettier! I don't hate you! And why is the room less stiflingly overstuffed -- hey, where the hell did your ego go?!"
EDIT: I love the way both newspapers are behaving over this. Not because it's mature journalism or anything -- and I'm pretty sure that's an oxymoron -- but because in my head, I can totally see the Daily Bugle and the Daily Planet pulling crap like this. *snerk* Comics have killed my brain cells.

Date: 2004-07-07 06:22 am (UTC)Then again, my perfect X-Men team is Cyclops (because he's the leader and he's good at it), Wolverine (because he's contractually obligated to be on every X-Men team), Iceman (because he's my favorite, damn it), Colossus (because really, why wouldn't you bring a gigantic metal Russian into battle with you?), Jubilee (because I love her, damn you), and Beast (because it isn't an X-Men team unless at least one of them is blue).
Hmm. Is it just me, or does anyone else have a mental image of half of my team mock-threatening to put refrigerator magnets on the other half, with Cyke trying desperately to restore order?

Date: 2004-07-07 07:25 am (UTC)Normally, I'd agree, but since it's Halle Berry, I'll make an exception. Seriously. She deserves to be replaced by someone infinitely more talented than she is, as punishment for being an egomaniacal twit. Also, to help erase the memory of crappy Halle Berry Storm. I want partial amnesia when I watch X1 and X2 so that I wonder what Halle Berry is doing there.

Date: 2004-07-07 06:58 am (UTC)There was an article on Super Hero Hype (I haunt that site for comic book movie news - http://www.superherohype.com) that Sir Ian had posted on his website that he wasn't signed for a third movie, but he will be back; and that Hugh was signed for three and my boy Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) was signed for X2 and X3.
I want some Storm (whomever it may be) and Kurt Wagner action.

Date: 2004-07-07 12:21 pm (UTC)Anyway, and back on topic, I'm not sorry to lose Berry, but I don't really like having actors switched out in the middle of things. I remember they did that in the old Star Trek movies with the Vulcan actress (name?) and it just freaked me out. The two didn't even resemble each other. ARGH! Invasion of the Vulcan Body Snatchers ... or something. I can't stand stuff that throws me completely out of the fictional world. Better to simply remove Storm from the team -- much as I like Storm (albeit not Berry's).
As long as they bring back Jean and do it well, and don't focus this film entirely on Wolverine (again), I'll be happy.
And Beast! Yes, we need Beast. Or at least Warren. :)

Date: 2004-07-07 01:43 pm (UTC)I think the addition of either Hank or Warren (Hank. Hank. Hank.) would do quite nicely. I actually wouldn't might Warren with a comic poor little dumb rich boy twist, for whom I have the perfect candidate: Seann William Scott. Then again, why make the older gen look like tools. Bring Hank in and legitimacy is restored.
I'm still pondering over the fact that Kelly Hu is coming back. I'm having some Ben-is-Glory over that, for sureses.

My take on the whole Halle thing...
Date: 2004-07-07 04:30 pm (UTC)That being said, however, herein lies the trouble...you have a little movie that's supposed to represent diversity in all its myriad forms. I know, I know, we'd all like to say that the world is enlightend, we accept everyone, blah-blah-blah, but the truth is you knock out Halle, and you've a problem with diversity - and people will take note. One (smaller) reason why the X-Men genre works so well is because people of different cultures/identities can identify with so many of the characters.
I don't like this woman they're kicking around (Christina whatever?) because she looks like just some random placeholder to represent the Black Vote. Hell, if you're just going to plop in any old random actor, *forget it.* Insult to injury, here.
Anyway.
Yep, I love Storm. More because she was/is an icon of my youth, and I like when she's represented well. Halle was and always will be a rotten choice to represent Storm, IMO. So. Saying that, who would I choose to replace her? Thandie Newton (Tom Cruise's love interest from MI:2 and Dame Vaako in "Chronicles of Riddick"). She can act, she's not too young or too old, she has Storm's quiet, "do not piss me off" look, and she's from Africa for pete's sakes. *AND* she's done science fiction movies! What more could they want?
