Yeah, about that apoca-fic community ...

So here's what I had in mind.

First off, the apocalypse itself. Whatever it would be would have to be as realistic as possible, i.e. without magical interference. Sure, it'd be really easy to just have Wolfram and Hart or some other fanon group of villians pull something huge, but for fandoms based in reality who'd much rather write fic based in reality, it's so much easier to avoid the more sci-fi/fantasy fandoms if the planet gets nuked or Captain Trips infects everyone or whatever.

Also, whatever it was, while a plague in the vein of The Stand could work, it might just be better to pick a date and a time and have something huge happen. Example -- on July 24, 2004 at 6:18 p.m., the planet gets nuked and Judgment Day arrives. (Yes, I stole the date from Terminator 3. Who's shocked?) This way, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to establish a set date for Armageddon across fandom lines.

The whole setup could be that once the apocalypse comes, all bets are off. You can kill anybody, send your characters anywhere, or have any magical whozits happen that you want, as long as it followed current canon. (For example, Richie Ryan or Tara Maclay cannot be alive in your story. They dead in canon, they dead in fic. If you want non-magical folks to wander into a fantasy canon (ex., the doctors from ER running into the characters from Charmed), that's fine, but if you have the cast of CSI and want to avoid the magical stuff, that's okay, too.

Now, here's where it gets a wee tricky. If you want to call dibs on one or more fandom, that's perfectly okay. The more fic, the better, don't you think? Although, I think it might be better for some fandoms if writers are kept to a minimum. (Example -- You cannot have the entire Buffyverse, but you can call dibs on the L.A. crew, or just Angel and Spike, or just Illyria, or whatever.) That being said, since it'd be like one huge story, you'd have to keep in mind what was going on in the story of the writer who had Methos if you have Duncan MacLeod, so that Joe Dawson can't be dead in Paris in one storyline and alive in Seacouver in the other.

This brings up the concept of writers working together on something. Obviously, if you had, say, the characters from Joan of Arcadia and just wanted to work with them, that'd be cool, but if you wanted to have them run into Bobby Drake and Jubilee, you'd have to either ask permission of the writer who had dibs on them (just in case they were planning a plotline with them being elsewhere at the time) or work with the other writer on the story. You know, like a great big playdate. :) This way, if you had the Terminator characters and wanted to crossover with Jake 2.0 one week, then hike over to San Francisco to crossover with Monk the next, it's entirely possible. (Hell, the more crossovers, the more fun this'll be. *maniacal cackle*)

You could always get rid of your dibs once you got done with a plotline. Like if you call dibs on Labyrinth just long enough to write a Sarah/Jareth ficlet, then toss them back into the pot so someone else could write a new storyline for them. Of course, with that in mind, whatever fanfiction had already been written for them in the course of the community would have to be considered canon. If someone tossed Spike and Xander back into the pot after a fic and you took them for a story, they couldn't start off the story sniping at each other as usual if the last story featured heavy-duty slashy smut between the two of them.

As for a community name, I already set up [livejournal.com profile] dead_earth as the community account, although it has no official name, no real userinfo, and no icon. But then again, I just got home, and I've been typing up this. ;) And if anybody else wants to be a mod, help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! *squeak*

If anybody has any other suggestions, now's the time to toss them out there. Like I said, what I'd love for it to read like is one big fanfic rather than a bunch of separate ones. (Yup, just like The Stand, with scattered groups of survivors running into one another occasionally, or hooking up for extended periods of time ... you know, whatever works.)

Eeek. This is going to be sooooooo cool. (And hopefully, everybody will do a whole lot of different fandoms 'cause that would just rock. Okay, so maybe I'm not all that articulate right now, but either I'm really excited or the Bawls is kicking in.)
