You know how sometimes you write something as a throwaway comment about a character, like they're really good at knitting or they've read a certain book or something, and then later on that little tidbit comes in really handy? I just did that in an "Oh, my God, that's perfect" kind of a way.

It's Sunday morning and I've only had five hours of sleep, damn it. My brain shouldn't even be working half this well. :)

I love that feeling. This year, my novel is totally make-it-up-as-I-go-along, and that sort of thing is magically happening all the time - things I just tossed in for fun earlier are suddenly signifigant and important, and everything comes together in a sudden rush of "ooh so cool"!

Do you often find you do your best thinking on a combination of caffeine, sleep deprivation, and sugar?

I'm beginning to think that all writers function best when at that stage. It must be the hallucinations brought on my the combo.
