Spoilers, obviously ...
Apr. 13th, 2005 10:48 pmAhem.
CHARLIE IS HOLDING THE BABY. I REPEAT, CHARLIE IS HOLDING THE BABY. AND IT'S SO FUCKING ADORABLE.
I'm sorry, but there is no way Uncle Charlie and Uncle Hurley and Teeny Tiny Baby are not some of the coolest Lost promo pics EVER.
*flails*
And ... well, really.
I'll probably remake it tomorrow on the computer at work, but still. Hee. :)

Oh, and I had to add "apocalypses" to my interests after I saw yours. Because it's true, I just didn't remember it at last info edit. And... you have platypi, homeschooling and renaissance fairs listed. I might just have to give you a cookie and a kiss for that.

Date: 2005-04-15 05:23 am (UTC)My mom gave me a very odd look when I told her I wanted to die in the apocalypse. She started going on about how that would destroy the circle of life and the rhythms of everything. I was like, "Come on, Mom, I know you're secretly a guerilla hippie, but apocalypses are just cool." (FYI, I was homeschooled, and have been to at least fifty Renaissance fairs, not counting the ones I attended in utero.)
*gleefully accepts both cookie and kiss* Not in that order, though, the crumbs get everywhere ^_^

Date: 2005-04-15 06:21 am (UTC)I don't think I'd like C/C even if I liked the individual characters (Claire bugs me, and as much as I love Dom I just don't like Charlie much) -- they're too saccharine-sweet for my tastes.
(Sawyer/Sayid, on the other hand, seems to hit on all my previous fannish kinks. It's dirty and wrong and so screwed up and I love it. They're like really early Spike/Angel.)
Ever since I was about 11 I've been fascinated with apocalypses. I love post-apoc stories (I had an XF post-col archive -- I don't even know if it's still up), and have a rather odd never-written story focusing on a viral apocalypse and small cities of survivors.
I tend to lean towards survive-the-apocalypse sorts of things, though, and survival stories in general (even things like people surviving in jungles or out in the middle of Alaska on their own).
Currently homeschooled. Unschooled, mostly. It takes about fifteen minutes to explain the whole thing. I need to write up those FAQs about my homeschooling experiences. ("Q. Do you have friends?" "A. Yeah, do you?")
My mother never went to a faire until last year (Great Lakes Medieval Faire, my first), and she was in fact rather disappointed that it didn't focus on history much. I told her that her idea is closer to what SCA does, but she's not interested in actually participating in or following it at all. (I love both faires and SCA but for quite different reasons.)
And, hee! I'm not used to glee at physical contact. Er. Digital contact. And digital cookies. They're vegan for you.

Date: 2005-04-15 05:13 pm (UTC)Don't worry, you don't have to explain unschooling to me. I was unschooled until age nine, when my dad began his journey into insanity (he is now learning ballroom dancing and dating a Mormon) by insisting that my brothers and I attend some kind of structured school environment. I went to the Waldorf school for a little less than a year, at which point I was kicked out for "questioning authority." Then I did ISP for a year, decided I didn't like it and started taking college classes. I'm now about halfway to getting my AA degree. The thing that bugs me most about people who think that homeschoolers have no social lives is that they've been proven wrong by multiple studies and still won't believe it. *shakes head*
I haven't been to any SCA meetings, but I've been told many times that I should. At this point, it's merely a question of getting my lazy butt out of the house.
The best cookies I've ever had were vegan. I made them out of a sugar cookie recipe, a bag of chopped coconut and a little improvisation.
Oh, dear. You're a Buffy fan. I... I'm not sure this can work between us. *adds you to flist anyway* ^_^

Date: 2005-04-16 07:17 am (UTC)Not very, no. I've met many reasonable fans. Normal fans, not so much.
Don't worry, you don't have to explain unschooling to me.
Actually, what takes forever to explain is the fact that I'm not totally unschooled, as I have to get credits to graduate with a real diploma and blah-di-blah, but I don't have any sort of set curriculum and I teach myself a lot of the stuff.
[snipped for length]
Okay, your story's way more complicated than mine. I've been in Clonlara ever since my mom pulled me out of school toward the end of first grade. My mother has to push me to do the actual schooly stuff (keep track of my hours, do math, writing assignments, that sort), but most of the rest is self-taught.
I'm now about halfway to getting my AA degree.
I apologise for my ignorance, but I'm not sure what that is, and Google doesn't seem to be much help.

See, what's sad is that it's true for me. My RL social life is essentially SCA and the other unschool family that lives about a mile away.
I haven't been to any SCA meetings, but I've been told many times that I should. At this point, it's merely a question of getting my lazy butt out of the house.
I can't promise you'll love it, because every group is different. Some people have had terrible experiences. I was lucky enough to end up with a very friendly group (Gwyntarian).
The best cookies I've ever had were vegan. I made them out of a sugar cookie recipe, a bag of chopped coconut and a little improvisation.
Hee. I'm looking to try some vegan recipes this year, from our garden (I've been vegetarian off and on, but most of the time it's been just from a sheer lack of desire to eat meat). And, duh, it just occurred to me that my favourite dish I make is vegan. And mostly organic.

I could easily say the same about you and Harry Potter. *g*
Though, given enough incentive I can be a fan of anything. I hate Lost and I'm still a fan because the fandom is fun.

Date: 2005-04-16 10:58 pm (UTC)I didn't know homeschoolers could get high school diplomas. I thought the GED was the only option.
I've been in Clonlara ever since my mom pulled me out of school toward the end of first grade.
That's an independent studies program, isn't it? My mom mentioned it as a possibility when my dad went ballistic about school, but I never really heard anything else about it. I guess that would explain the diploma thing. Out of curiosity, how old are you?
I apologise for my ignorance, but I'm not sure what that is, and Google doesn't seem to be much help.
Associate in Arts. It's the lowest college degree you can earn. Technically, as the degree takes two years to earn, I should have finished it last summer, but this is the first semester I've taken more than two courses at once.
Hee. I'm looking to try some vegan recipes this year, from our garden (I've been vegetarian off and on, but most of the time it's been just from a sheer lack of desire to eat meat).
I've been vegetarian since I saw four baby chicks grow from wet puffballs to actual birds, over the course of a week, when I was four. I promptly decided that I would not eat meat ever again, and (aside from the half-a-shrimp I accidentally ate once because I was misinformed about the contents of an eggroll) I haven't. I'm only vegan for health, though, and I'm not nearly as strict about it as I am about meat.
And, duh, it just occurred to me that my favourite dish I make is vegan. And mostly organic.
Oh? What is it?
I could easily say the same about you and Harry Potter. *g*
Awww, you don't like HP? I agree that the movies are terrible and should be blasted to smithereens and shot into space for some other unlucky species to discover, but the books aren't half bad. J.K. Rowling is honestly not that good a writer, but the world and characters she's created are, IMHO, marvelous.
Though, given enough incentive I can be a fan of anything. I hate Lost and I'm still a fan because the fandom is fun.
I really don't like the show all that much either. I think I only still follow it in the hopes of another Sawyer/Sayid torture scene. And too much free time, but hey, it's my free time.
