apocalypsos: (work sucks)

So I called Bossman (again) to see about my unused vacation time pay. I didn't get him, but I did get one of the other supervisors, who got to listen to me complain that I sort of need that money, uh, YESTERDAY. Which is only fair, really, considering I should have gotten it weeks ago. Actually, as long as I get it by the end of the week, I'll be happy, and Bossman can pull the strings to get that to happen, and will if I have anything to say about it. I'm sick of this shit, and while I'm not very good at being assertive about this stuff, considering this is three hundred dollars or so I really need, I think I can manage this time around.

He's supposed to call me in the next two hours (which sucks because I have to go buy toilet paper and ransack my parents's attic for more hand-me-downs), so until then, I map out The Vampires of Vandling. *glares at phone when it doesn't ring immediately*

And for the record, since I haven't said much about the new job, I can't really say all that much about it due to that lovely comprehensive confidentiality agreement (be surprised I can admit I work there), but it's twelve-hour night shifts sticking supplies into machines. It's monotonous and loud and by four in the morning, I'm about to keel over, but hey, it pays well. *eye roll*

12-hour factory shifts suck, but the pay is nice. Or at least, the pay where I work is nice.

The thing that sucks about mine is that the four-days-on, four-days-off schedule means sometimes I work mandatory overtime. Ick. (Which, okay, for the extra money, I'll put up with it, but still.)

And hey, with this job, I get paid once a week instead of every other week, so that's good. :)

I feel your pain on mandatory overtime. Ours is not announced until the day before our days off, so if any and all plans get shot to hell usually the day beforehand. >.< There was a week this summer where I worked 60 hours. *dies a little*

So you work four 12-hour shifts in a row? Augh, that would kill me. We work two days, off two days, work three days, off two days, work two days and off three days. Rinse, repeat, ad infinitum.

Yup, four-on, four-off. I'd complain about it more except ... well, aside from not having done a full shift yet, that four days off is nice. I did the math and I've got fifteen days off during November for NaNo. And that's not counting the fact that my shift doesn't start until six, so really, I'll have all of the first day of my shift to work on my NaNo, too. :)

What I really miss was the really great job I had a few years ago for about two months (before we all got laid off ... *sobs*) that was an all-night twelve-hour shift, but it was building fiberoptic circuit boards and it was actually really interesting. The great thing was that they set up the schedule in this weird pattern so that you ended up getting a week off every month.

You work the 6pm-6am shift too? Now that I find vastly amusing.

The week I had to work five days in a row (and two of them were eight-hour overtime shifts) killed me. And I find it's harder to go back to work after my three-day weekend than it is my two-day weekend. >.> While having four days off in a row sounds nice, I think I prefer mine broken up.
