Somebody on ye olde friends list admitted they'd never read a Harry Potter book, and I was thinking about how that's just one of those things that's not embarrassing at all and yet still manages to get a shocked, "Seriously?! Why not?" reaction out of people.

So today's time-wasting question -- name something you've never done (or more than one, if you want) that the average person has, the kind of thing that would get that kind of shocked reaction. Never had a pet, never held a baby, never traveled out of your home state ... something like that.

Don't know if you would count this or not, but in todays society it might seem surprising. I have never tried recreational drugs, tried pot, or even smoked cigarettes. And no, I'm about as far from being uptight and straight laced as you can get :-)

I say 'have yet to' because I either plan to do them, or am bound to sooner or later. I'm a pessoptomist that way.

I have yet to break a single bone in my body, or spend a single night in the hospital. Similarly, I have yet to participate in a fight. :>

Never had a serious relationship outside of the one that eventually became my married relationship.

Um. Okay. Despite my ever-expanding frontier, I have never even considered going on a diet. Or becoming a vegetarian.

I have never willingly chosen to watch, either live or broadcast, any sport involving a ball.

I have never tried ballroom dancing.

Never done any recreational drugs, including pot. After seeing some people passing a joint around with their eyes and noses all hugely red and runny, and their speech sadly and embarrassingly disjointed, I never wanted to. ::shudder::

I drove a friend's car, once, around a parking lot and it was fun, but could see that I'd easily and quickly accidentally kill someone if I tried to do it as a regular thing. I lived in Brooklyn and live in Boston, so having a car was never necessary.
Never been to the Statue of Liberty. Since I lived in NYC for 32 years, that's considered surprising by many. Did go to the top of the Empire State Building like a tourist, however. I interviewed for jobs at the World Trade Center, but never went to the observation deck. Now I wish I had taken the time after an interview to do that.
