Halle Berry only agreed to star in the second X-Men sequel after studio bosses agreed to give her a bigger role in the forthcoming movie. The Oscar-winner was reluctant to reprise her role as Storm in X-Men 3 - but producer Lauren Shuler convinced her by boosting her character's involvement. Schuler says, "I love working with her. We would only write a huge role for her, so she's right in that respect. We would make sure that would happen." Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Famke Janssen are also expected to reprise their roles in film, set to begin shooting next year.

Ugh. I suppose pointing out to the producers that they could have spent that extra time and money on Gambit or Colossus or Beast and made the audience infinitely happier would just go right over their heads.

EDIT: You know how they have those DVD players that'll just edit out objectionable material for children? They should have DVD players that do that for adult movie lovers. So if I want to push a button and replace Halle Berry with a better Storm or force Kevin Costner to speak with an English accent or entirely negate Sylvester Stallone from existence, I have that option.

i am so sick of halle berry ruining my favorate comics.
X-men is an ensemble piece, and storm is one of the background characters. I have been saying for years that it should have been Angela Bassett.
Grrrrrr.

I didn't hate Storm before the first movie, but I didn't particularly like her, either. (It was all the loud, overly dramatic speechifying she did while using her powers. Urgh.)

When Halle Berry got signed to play, I was willing to give her a (small) chance, but then she fucked it up with that crappy accent and the bad wig and ... blech. Seriously, I could have had much more fun if they'd given the kids all uniforms in the next movie and ... hell, I don't know, signed Storm up for the Peace Corps against her will or something.

As I mentioned in someone else's journal, they could get a better actress and a better Storm with Thandie Newton. For much less money and drama. I suspect they'll ratchet up the Storm-Nighcrawler angle, which is a good thing, because I loves me some Nightcrawler.
It's been a million years since I've read the Dark Phoenix saga, but I don't seem to remember Wolverine as being an integral part of the story. At least nothing they couldn't give to Cyclops.
They will have to throw a hell of a lot of money at Jackman to get him back.

Good morning!

I think I read somewhere it was in his contract to do X2 and another sequel, and considering the way his films have been turning out at the box office, I can see him sprinting back to the set with bad hair firmly attached. (The boy's sweet, but h's got horrible taste in scripts.)

I can see them laying off the Wolverine angle a bit, since they used him so much in the first two movies, but for more Storm? Ick. I'd rather have them focus on anybody else but her for two hours. Hell, let's go to the fast food joint where Toad's probably working and watch him make chicken sandwiches for two hours. Sheesh.

And good morning to you! *waves*

I've decided that as long as I get my Iceman, my Wolverine, my Cyclops, and at least one shot of Colossus and Jubilee each, I won't have to take out a hit on the producers. But I reserve the right to take a bathroom break whenever Miss Oscar Winner Extraordinaire starts ACTING.

I still think Anna Paquin and Ian McKellan should take her out back and smack some sense into her. For the honor of the Academy and its winners and nominees, of course. *nods solemnly*

So now the Phoenix saga is going to be about Storm and Wolverine, instead of Scott? Gee, thanks for the respect to comic fans *head-desk*

Colossus has been in cameos in the first two films, so we might have a chance of that one... but Gambit and Beast seem unlikely. I think that Angel would have a better chance of getting on-screen. Plus, since Anna Paquin probably isn't going to be in X3 and Bryan Singer isn't going to re-cast any roles, my primary reason for Gambit to show up is already gone ;)

I could have sworn I read an article that said Anna and Shawn Ashmore were the only two actors who were officially signed for the third movie. (God, I hope so.)

I would be so much happier if they just killed Storm off in a freak accident while buttering toast and the next thing you knew, Remy was on the front steps. (Regardless of whether or not Rogue was in residence. Because if they're going to fuck with canon, I'd appreciate it if they started with the angstfest that was Remy/Rogue.)

There are no words in any language to express how sick and fucking tired I am of Halle Berry's bullshit. It's like she's on a one woman mission to ruin my childhood. If she ends up in a movie based on a Neil Gaiman and/or Alan Moore book I will be forced to kill myself.

In my dream universe Bryan Singer is at his desk right now writing Storm out of the script in a fit of vindictive glee. *prays*

See, if they give her Storm's mohawk, that would be cool. The leater and big mohawk years..

Personally, I want to see _my_fave characters. But since I'm a New Mutants/X-Force fan, I'm not holding my breath.

If they are going to pull in the younger generation, I'm pretty sure that Illyana's going to not appear. And I wouldn't even cast Tabitha Smith/Boom-Boom/Boomer/Meltdown. I mean, I love them, but they will never see the screen.

Count yourselves lucky Gambit fen. Very lucky. Becuase if the franchise continues he will show up. He will get a semi prominent role.

My characters are somewhere in priority with Gomi and his talking lobsters.

You know, this is kind of OT, but in that edit, I read that as: "They should have DVD players that do that for adult-movie lovers."

And wackiness ensued. I had you mentally wishing you could cut and paste different people into your porn, and I didn't realize that I had misread it until the bit about Kevin Costner. I was like, why on Earth would you want Kevin Costner in your porno in the first place? Then I realized my mistake.

But you've really got me thinking about how awesome it would be to have the ability to spot-edit porn in your living room. "Ooooh, well, I think we could have that a bit bigger, don't you? And that cheesy mustache is OUT!"

OH, the possibilities!

When some friends and I were doing the X3 plot and casting game we figured it was going to be the big chick fight movie.

Dark Phoenix, Emma Frost, more Mystique, and um. Jubilee.

I think that one was a sop to me. But then, she's cameoed in both the movies before and she's a fan favorite. So I don't know. *crosses fingers*

yeah. I can't really see how she'd fit into the DPS. She was just someone who flew around, fought a few Hellfire Club guys, flew around, and fought the Shi'ar super group at the end. If they make her part bigger then they are seriously twisting the plotline in ways that makes me twitch just trying to think about.

man, with all the lines they gave Storm in the first movies they could have cast Alek Wek or Kiara Kabukuru and the lack of acting talent would have been the same, but at least they wouldn't have been tiny whiny bubblegum women. And then they could have stuck with that! And not had to give Halle Berry more lines.

and I wouldn't have consistently mistaken them for Winona Ryder, visually.

This makes me very, very sad. I mean, Storm bores me in the comics, and Halle Berry actively irritates me in real life. That comes down to a big sack of suck, and why the hell don't they just kill her? Mr Singer's been commenting on the unwieldiness of the cast, anyway.

Luckily, if you listen to the commentaries, it's clear that he's either hot for or actually sleeping with Jimmy Marsden (either that, or slash is corrupting my brain. Again), so his role should be more or less assured.

Gambit is another character who bores me. On the other hand, so does Wolverine in the comics, and I love Hugh Jackman's version.

Personally, I want a proper role for Jubilee, a British Psylocke (possibly without the codename; just have a plot involving international espionage, and a British secret agent, pilot and supermodel named Elisabeth Braddock. Hell, I'd even accept their making her a mutant), and Beast. Lots of Beast, with or without fur.

Also, they should leave the Brotherhood out of the third movie; the X-Men deserve some variety in their villains, and it would give time for Pyro to train up for the big battle at the end of part four.

Date: 2004-05-12 12:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sekari.livejournal.com
I agree. We need some psylocke and some of the cool british characters. I also concur that we don't need the Brotherhood in X3. They need a rest, give us some new villians. We Have yet to see a single sentinel.
They will never ever let the plotline go that way, but I really want to see and Excalibur movie. That would be a dream come true.

Date: 2004-05-12 04:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] callmesyd.livejournal.com
Oh, dude, I just had a thought! Maybe Storm is getting a bigger role - by exploring her claustrophobia!

"Okay, Halle, we just need to put you in this little box..."

"But Bryan, the audience doesn't want to see that!"

"Sure they do, did you see Kill Bill Vol. 2? Strong woman buried alive are en vogue, baby! Now, at the end of the movie, Logan and Kurt will come and rescue you, and you can flex those.. uh.. acting muscles of yours, okay? It'll be another Oscar for you, boy howdy!"

"...well, alright. But do I have to get in it now? We don't start shooting for weeks..."

"A good actress needs time to prepare. In you go!"

She won an Oscar, whoopty damn doo. Hell they could have cast Whoopi Goldberg and she would have even made a better Storm. I can only imagine what super-hero she has next to mangle.

I read the novelization of the book before I saw the movie (I was broke and it was easier to sit in barnes&noble's and read it than to sneak into the movies) and they mentioned a whole load of characters that weren't in the movie. Kitty and Syrin and Jamie and Petey had fairly large roles, and Gambit and Betsy also were mentioned a lot. And Hank was too.
Oh, and Jean went blind instead of dying.

The movie was kind of dissappointing after that.
